The Flamingo Files is my monthly dispatch from around District 5360. The name traces back to District Conference, when Louise Horne rather publicly declared that I had developed a reputation for being a flamingo — apparently someone willing to stand out, try something different, and occasionally ruffle a few feathers.
I’m still not entirely sure I’ve earned the comparison, but I’ve decided to have some fun with it. Flamingos are distinctive, adaptable and social; they stand on their own, but thrive as part of a flock. There’s something in that for Rotary leadership: be willing to experiment, stay connected, learn from one another, and remember that we accomplish far more together.

MEMbership has its privileges
District 5360 brought home some new hardware from the Zone Summit and the story behind the award might be more important than the award itself. It’s a great example of what can happen when we set a goal, write it down, and get to work.
We’ve traditionally held our District Conference in the spring, but what if we tried something different? Before we choose a date, perhaps we should first answer a bigger question: what do we want our District Conference to do?
With more than 1,600 People of Action across District 5360, our Leadership Laboratory has an incredible pool of talent to draw from. As we build our three-year District Action Plan, there will be plenty of opportunities for new voices, new ideas and new leaders to help shape what comes next.
