Hello Fellow Rotarians,
The Rotary Club of Calgary Millennium is hosting a showing of the movie – “Gino – A Child of War,” in cooperation with History Matters – a registered charity dedicated to preserving Canada’s military history.
The show will be at 7 PM on October 11th at the Globe Theatre at 617 8th Avenue SW in Calgary.
My friend, Karen Storwick, is a military historian and a film producer.
The movie is based on the true story of Gino, a 5-year-old orphan who was adopted by Canadian soldiers in the Italian Theatre in World War 2. The film was shot in Italy and in some Calgary locations as well (see if you can spot them). Post-production work was in Calgary. A grown-up Gino Farnetti-Bragaglia is featured in the film.
The film runs about 55 minutes and will be followed by a question-and-answer session with Karen immediately afterwards.
Rotary proceeds will be used to support the Veterans Food Banks in Calgary. Non-perishable food items are welcome. Pet food and toys are also welcome as many Veterans have support animals that they need to care for.
A short trailer link is below – I dare you not to cry:
Payment is via Zeffy – a ticketing service dedicated to supporting charity events. The costs are much lower than Eventbrite. Ticketing and receipts for this event will go through History Matters Zeffy account. https://www.zeffy.com/ ticketing/gino-a-child-of-war
Thanks,
