I joined the Rotary Action Group 4 Girls Empowerment, you should too if you are interested in the action of Rotary to Empower women and girls around the globe.
Women's and girls' empowerment is different for each of us. Cultural, political, racial, and other factors affect women every day as they navigate their worlds. What is ‘normal’ for women in Canada may not be in the United States, Bermuda or France. Even within Zones 28 and 32, differences and expectations are realities. So, how do we empower women and girls worldwide through Rotary, where we accept and encourage our diversity?
"Think Globally, Act Locally" may be one strategy. What programs are in place to help young girls overcome the challenges associated with menstrual hygiene? What about starting a local Toastmasters group to help girls be empowered and find their voice? What are young girls facing as roadblocks to standing equally alongside their male counterparts?
How can a District grant help you to empower girls in your District?
Or, perhaps an International initiative is an opportunity, a Global Grant to empower women and girls? Consider the challenges women specifically face, and consider how your club and host club can make a difference.
Let’s talk about opportunities in Rotary to make a difference through RAG membership. Currently, the Rotary Action Group 4 Empowering Girls is seeking members of the Board committees. I am the new Committee Chair for Health and Wellness, and I am looking for RAG members to serve with me on this committee. If you are interested and want to find out more, please email me.
Yours in Rotary Service,
