Trans Awareness Week, Nov 13 - 19

November 13 - 19

November 13 to 19 is Trans Awareness Week – a chance for everyone to stand up and be a trans ally, celebrate the trans and gender diverse community and spread all-important awareness and education. This is a one-week celebration leading up to Transgender Day of Remembrance, which memorializes victims of transphobic violence.

This week the LGBT+ Fellowship will be sharing stories from trans and gender diverse Rotarians and friends on Instagram and Facebook. We invite you to share these messages with your club and networks.

On this important week, we stand with the trans and gender diverse communities to say Rotary is not a place where we will accept transphobia and we stand with trans and gender diverse communities on their path to inclusion.
New Generations Service Exchange, Nov 21, 22, Online Conference

An experience to share a future of service and peace

The New Generation Service Exchange Rotary program is aimed at involving enthusiastic personalities, who have reached the age of consent - indeed, "young adults" -  placing them in an activity mainly consisting of service action, encouraging their professional development and stimulating their social interest.

By participating in the NGSE, with the discovery of a different world from his/her own, each "young adult" becomes a citizen of the world, turning into a promoter and “standard-bearer” of Future of Service and Peace

Christmas Hamper Project
Calgary Downtown Christmas Hamper committee are encouraging any Rotarians to reach out on an individual basis if they would be interested in adopting a family or two.

This year we are targeting 100 families with 75 of them recommended by school principals and 25 of them coming from our Stay In School program.

To cover the costs, the committee looks for cheques for $250 each to raise the $50,000 needed to cover 100 families.

(*Many who adopt a family go above the budgeted amounts out of their own pocket, which is perfectly fine, but not expected.)

When you get assigned a family, you will receive a list of the names of the family members, the kids" wish lists", and other details that the schools tend to send along. You will then go shopping, gift wrapping and delivering (which is the fun part!)

Please circulate to your members this year, and if interested I will put you in touch with the lead contact person to indicate your interest!

Day of 1000 Lunches, Volunteers Needed
As mentioned, the Salvation Army is looking to partner with Rotary Clubs in their "Day of 1000 Lunches" program.

The goal is to pack up a thousand lunch kits that will contain a lunch (obviously) along with a toque, socks and gloves.  We have organized a broad group of volunteers to spread out over the city and distribute these kits to both the folks in the Salvation Army facilities but also to those who are “living rough”.

(*This idea came out of our own committee but it has been so overwhelmingly accepted that the Salvation Army units in Edmonton, Ft. McMurray, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat are also going to do this with the result that there will be in the order of 3,000 lunches delivered on November 19th. )

Gerry Wood and George Brookman are the Co-Chairs of the campaign, and they are looking to see if Rotary was in the position to support this effort in both a financial and volunteer perspective.
Let me know if you or your club would be interested in getting involved with this initiative and I'll connect you with the right folks!

House of Friendship Applications Open

On behalf of District Governor Mary Turner, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome and invite you to apply for a booth at the House of Friendship, which will form part of the conference in May 2021.

Our upcoming District Conference, to be held in Drumheller from May 14 - 16 will have a strong focus on the House of Friendship. It is our desire that our exhibitors will reflect our theme of “Navigating a New World”. Time will be set aside during the conference to be able to fully engage with exhibitors. Download Application Form

We will be taking submissions up to December 15. Early in January the selection committee will review applications and start to form the House of Friendship. All applicants will be advised accordingly.

If you have questions please email me at vbarzey@expediacruises.com.
We look forward to receiving your applications and of course seeing you in May!!!

RAYEC Camp, Aug 8 - 14, 2021

Planning is well underway for the 24th annual Rotary Alberta Youth Entrepreneurship Camp.
RAYEC 2021 will be held August 8 to 14 at Eagles Nest Ranch.  RAYEC is a business camp for youth aged 13-15.

The camp would not be possible without the financial support of the clubs of Rotary District 5360.  Sponsoring a camper/youth leader for the week is $1000.00.

All camp applications are processed centrally.  Clubs are not responsible for finding a youth, however, they can encourage youth in their areas to apply.
