Biography
Dr James Hennessy was born in Peterborough Ontario. He graduated from Trent University with a Bachelor of Science degree and the University of Toronto with a Doctor of Dental Surgery. He served 19 years in the Canadian army reserve and another 19 years with Canada’s regular forces.
 
Jim Hennessy joined the Army Reserves at the age of 16 years as a private. He was subsequently promoted to lance-corporal, then corporal, and finally to the rank of sergeant.
 
Jim’s leadership abilities were recognized when he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. He soon rose to the rank of captain followed by a further promotion to major in the artillery. Later he moved to the infantry as a company commander with the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada.
 
In 1977 Dr. Hennessy transferred from the reserves to the regular force as a dental officer and was posted to Calgary in 1980. During his service, he completed programs at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in the United States and a combat casualty care course with the Royal Navy. He took part in extensive NATO exercises in Norway.
 
Jim Hennessy retired from the regular forces as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1996. He promptly transferred back to the army reserve where he was appointed commanding officer of 15 Medical Company.
 
In civilian life, Jim operated a private dental practice for 12 years after retiring from the military in 1998. He became the staff dentist at the Bowden and Drumheller medium security corrections facilities from August 2008 until 31 July 2017.
 
In 1966 Dr. Hennessy was married to Josie, now deceased. He is the father of two sons and proud grandpa to 4 grandchildren.
