Congratulations to all Calgary Rotarians! The Rotary Clubs of Calgary (yes all the clubs) have been recognized by the United Way and awarded the 2022 Francis Lefaivre Award.

Francis Lefaivre was a generous and gracious man who
was an inspiration and a friend to many of us. He was a passionate supporter of United Way and a remarkable contributor to the larger community. Among many other achievements, Fran and his wife Marjorie were awarded the Outstanding Lifetime Philanthropist Generosity of Spirit Award in 2003.

In his memory, United Way of Calgary and Area has created the Francis Lefaivre Award. This award recognizes individuals who have shown the same passion for the community and generosity of spirit that Fran showed throughout his life. There are three criteria for this award, recipients must:
  • Have a passion for helping one’s fellow citizen
  • Have a commitment to the improvement of social conditions in our community, and must contribute significantly to making Calgary a great city for everyone
  • Must demonstrate outstanding volunteer service and exceptional community involvement through United Way of Calgary and Area

This year’s award was presented by Karen Young at the United Way of Calgary and Area’s Annual General Meeting on April 20th. Receiving the award on behalf of all the Calgary Rotary Clubs was Manon Mitchell, President of the Rotary Club of Calgary, accompanied by Franco Savoia (Director Community Services RC Calgary), Martin Parnell (District 5360 DG, Howie Shikaze (RC Calgary Champion of Hubs project), and Steve Allan (RC Calgary Past President & PDG District 5360).

What a proud moment in the life of Rotary in Calgary! What a great recognition of all the hours of service and contributions by dedicated Rotarians. The award will be circulated to all the clubs in Calgary in the coming months.
