NGSE: Tabitha in Italy

Tabitha Gangur-Powell, from Lethbridge, Alberta, has spent two months in District 2060, Italy, on a New Generations Service Exchange Program.
She has had two wonderful host families in Mestre and Padova.
During her first month at the Veneto Eye Bank Foundation, she shadowed ophthalmology, learned about cornea donation/storage, and worked on research. Her research project revolved around optimizing a cornea transplant technique called Pre-Descemet’s Endothelial Keratoplasty.
During her second month, she spent time at the Padova University Hospital in the Andrology and Reproductive Medicine unit. Here, she has studied to male infertility, semen analysis, cryopreservation, diagnostic imaging, sexual dysfunction, genetic disorders, and endocrinology.
Along with her placements, she has made the most of her time in Italy, meeting Rotaractors, Rotarians, fellow NGSE participants, and exploring the country.
Tabitha is very grateful to everyone involved in her NGSE program and is amazed at the wonderful opportunities that Rotary has provided her and others.
Tabitha wisely made the most of her trip to Europe, by building in visits to a number of countries both before and after her NGSE program.
Prior to the start of her NGSE, she visited the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Estonia, and Austria. Next, she will visit family in Scotland before coming back home to District 5360 in mid-December.
We are happy that you, Tabitha, had such a great NGSE program. We are grateful to Valeria (D2060 NGSE chair), your host families, and those who facilitated your wonderful vocational experience.

NGSE UPDATE: THE CALGARY 3 ARE SAFELY HOME
On Tuesday, 26 November, NGSE team members and host families had a wonderful online meeting with Elia (Italy), Gio and Julia (Brazil), our ‘Calgary 3’ who recently spent five weeks on an NGSE program in Calgary. We were delighted that Gio and Julia’s District NGSE chairs were also able to join in!

The purpose was to celebrate the successful conclusion of their program, their safe return home, to share some of the memorable exchange experiences, to find out how they are doing now that they are back home, and to express the hope that the friendships and connections that developed, will be maintained over time.

From all in District 5360, go well, Calgary 3! And congratulations again to Julia who has become engaged since her return home!
