The Last Three Weeks

These last three weeks, I’ve been part of the Advanced Engineering Department at Buhler, where I’ve had the chance to work with many people in many areas of the pre-development and development stages of pumps and motors. Here, I tore apart motors and water pumps with my bare hands (with the help of the occasional hacksaw) to learn about the inner workings of the rotors, stators, and electronic components. In my free time, I used the internal knowledge base to teach myself about the mechanical and electronic commutation process for brushless and brush DC motors, and familiarized myself with performance curves of motors that we analyze at the company nearly every day. I engaged in presentations about engineering project management and design procedures, and worked with benchmarking to compare our products to competitors. It’s been a very valuable experience, and I’m looking forward to moving to Testing and Prototyping next week!

My host family and I also had the opportunity to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Rotary Club of Fürth at a beautiful castle in Cadolzburg, where members of their partner club in Paisley, Scotland, were also invited. There, we listened to interesting speeches, ate some fantastic food, and were taught traditional Scottish dances - I even did a partner dance with the founder of the Fürth Rotary Club!

Photo 1: Taking apart motors and observing the inner components at Bühler. Here, you can see the windings in the stator and the separation can of a water pump.
2nd photo - Attending yet another German beer festival in Nürnberg with my girlfriend, of course exclaiming “Prost” (cheers) before every pint!
3rd photo - Took a day trip on my day off to Würzburg. There, I visited the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Würzburg Residence, among other beautiful locations.
