September 22 - 25 at the Southern Alberta Bible Camp (Lomond)
Registration forms will be available soon!
Our intent is not to change the camp overnight, it is a true revival, to take the camp to its origins and to focus on youth leadership training.. over time.
RYPEN – is an opportunity for young people 14-18 to challenge themselves, build friendships with like minded people, personally develop, and build life skills and/or awareness.
Who is coming to camp? Students with undeveloped potential who need a helping hand to develop leadership, initiative and responsibility skills. Those who would benefit from confidence building, encouragement and a chance to learn about his/her own innate capabilities.
This year, our leaders will be training prior to the camp in the areas of the role of the volunteer, rapport building and disclosures, community web of support, suicide awareness, completing the Little Warriors online Prevent It! program, self-care, and getting to know each other! Our trainer and camp facilitator is a former camp leader!! Trevor Brown brings a wealth of experience and skills from his work locally, provincially and volunteering internationally, and has been working with youth in a variety of roles across Alberta for the past 13 years.
Trevor ran a consultant business called Operation Humanity that worked with schools, agencies, and municipal/provincial governments that provided presentations, facilitation and consultation on youth initiatives and events. He travelled provincially to help create and facilitate multiple youth councils that engaged the youth voice in municipal and provincial politics and social issues. It was through this work that Trevor began working closely with a local not for profit to provide suicide and bullying prevention programming to youth in Southern Alberta. Trevor was instrumental in the grant writing, creation and implementation of the many incarnations of the Building Bridges programming. In approximately 8 years of operation, Trevor and the Building Bridges program engaged over 3,000 youth with experiential learning opportunities including 5 summer camps.
Trevor is an energetic and engaging facilitator that has been well recognised for his work in Southern Alberta. On a personal note, Trevor has a 4-year-old daughter that he loves dearly, cares for 5 crazy cats and has travelled to over 20 countries on 4 continents.
We will also have some very special guest speakers!!

Most events work up a poster and provide promotional materials for general distribution of the event.
A poster in PDF format that displays the 5-Ws of information is a great way to announce event details.
Ensure the PDF production can be down-sampled to a JPG for inclusion in the newsletter.
Provide the ticket purchase link separately so the poster can be linked within the news article.
In lieu of marketing materials, please provide a completed sample layout in a word document
If your event does not have a marketing team and you are doing it all, check out sample posters provided by Rotary/BrandCenter/Materials/Event Resources that make your event easier to promote.
RI also has a planning guide to help make your event a total success.
Include a Rotary Friendship Exchange to Sri Lanka in your vacation plans for 2017!!
Applications are currently being accepted for a Rotary Friendship Exchange to Sri Lanka Friday, February 10th to 23rd, 2017
Currently, we are looking for 10 Rotarians (in any combination of individuals and couples) for this exchange.
The exchange is to Sri Lanka - District 3220 that encompasses clubs in cities and towns like Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Nuwara Eliya, & Badulla.
This Friendship Exchange will involve 15 nights including one pre-exchange night in hotel then 14 days/nights with different host Rotary families (3-4 nights each approximately). There is usually a maximum of 5-6 host families per host Rotary club. Programming includes Rotary activities, touring local points of interest and visiting tourist attractions.
The exchange is dependent on a minimum number of interested participants.
Some additional facts:
· Participants must pay all costs except the billeting provided by Rotarians in Sri Lanka.
· On this exchange most local transportation is provided by the hosts at nominal cost to us.
· Travel to Sri Lanka is booked individually (not as a group) so your plans can include pre and/or post-Exchange travel.
· Arrival will be thru Columbo airport with possible connection to initial host city by air/car or train (to be confirmed by Outbound Coordinator at first meeting).
· Must be prepared to complete the full exchange ie. arrival on Feb 9 commencement of the Exchange on February 10, 2017. The last night at the host families will be February 23 but the departure will be on February 24, 2017.
· The Rotarian must be part of the travelling group.
· The group will participate in pre-exchange planning meetings with a district coordinator.
· This is a District to District Exchange and while participation in hosting an inbound exchange would be appreciated, it is not a requirement (but does help in assessing successful candidates if we are oversubscribed).
CRITERIA:
Must be a Rotarian in good standing.
Participants must be team players as the group will travel together for the duration of the exchange.
Must be a good ambassador for Rotary and Canada.
Must be in reasonable physical condition as the exchange will involve tourism activities that may require some moderate walking.
An application should be submitted promptly as we expect this exchange will be a popular one! Extensive Rotary experience is not a requirement but may be a factor in selecting the team if the Exchange is oversubscribed by the deadline (RFE involvement ie. Hosting is heavily weighted). So please complete ALL questions on the application, in detail, as it may be the difference of whether you are chosen or not. Deadline for applications and RECEIPT OF DEPOSIT CHQ will be August 26, 2016.
