Once in a while a man comes along who is a natural leader of people and by their actions and their words inspires everyone around him to do better, to do more in the service of others.  And by doing so, makes everyone around them better for the experience – both the providers and the recipients of that service.

Rotary’s theme of Service above Self and The Rotary Foundation’s motto of ‘Doing Good in the World’, was exemplified by Dr. Monty J Audenart, late of the Rotary Club of Red Deer East. Monty was an inspiration to all whom he touched; that list is large given Monty’s service to Rotary as Club President, District Governor, Rotary International Director and Vice President and Rotary Foundation Trustee.

In honor of Monty’s service and his natural inspiration of those he touched to go ‘above and beyond’ in their service and servant leadership, the Rotary Club of Red Deer East initiated the ‘Monty J Audenart Inspiration Above & Beyond’ award.

Monty was aware of the efforts and also expressed his humility and gratitude.  It was also Monty’s express desire that the parameters of any such recognition be extended beyond just Red Deer and so that has been done through the transfer of the award  to District 5360.  Nominations will be received from any District 5360 Rotarian or Rotaractor; the nominee does not necessarily need to come from Red Deer or even our District, as Monty’s circle of influence extended far beyond these borders; further, the nominee does not necessarily need to even be a Rotarian.

It is anticipated that this will be awarded annually, should suitable candidates be identified and that the first such presentation will coincide with D5360’s Conference in Canmore, AB in May, 2016.

The award commemorates the contributions of Dr. Monty Audenart, a Red Deer dentist who served as District Governor of Rotary International District 5360 in 2000–01 and went on to serve as RI Vice president 2008-09.  He was the Trustee of the Rotary Foundation at the time of his passing on January 21, 2015.
